With strong relationships within the school, everyone who walks into PJP feels like a part of the family. Known for its high academic standards and success, Pope John Paul II fosters educational excellence through a variety of programming, while also offering a multitude of extracurricular activities to nurture the mind, body and spirit.

Located on a beautiful campus alongside St. Thomas Aquinas High School and École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys, students are encouraged to engage in partnership programs with both schools by participating in activities like sports jamborees, seasonal feasts, shared recess, powwows and more. What Parents Say

“PJPII has been a really positive experience, so far. We both knew that our children would be going to the Kenora Catholic District School Board, and it was very easy to choose PJPII when we went to their open house. We felt so welcome, and there was such a sense of inclusiveness, and positivity, community, and good spirit. When we got back in the car our son said ‘That’s my school’ and it was.”

-Dayna Zilinski

“Hi my son Carter is in Grade 3 and my daughter Lily is in Kindergarten at Pope John Paul II School. Communication with families is amazing. There are so many opportunities for parents to be involved in the school. It feels like one big family. I went to a Catholic School growing up, and now my children get to have the same spiritual foundation that I had.”

– Crystal Wilson

"My son Erro is in Kindergarten at Pope John Paul II School. I've had three sons attend PJP and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere has always greeted me at the front door. The school is continually offering new programming like the Ojibway Language Classes. The teachers go beyond your expectations to get to know your child, and make you feel like family. Because of this and the strong academic support my son is thriving."

 - Cheyenne Bunting

"When we came to Kenora from Edmonton a few years ago, my daughters didn't take well to the move. Thankfully, two teachers from Pope John Paul II School took the time to help them adjust. The teachers called and emailed me regularly on progress - which was really important to me as a parent. That's what makes the school special - they really care about your child."

Excellence in Education

Known for its student success, Pope John Paul II School supports excellence through a variety of programming. The supportive reading program, EMPOWER, gives children the confidence they need to read successfully in both the classroom and outside the school. The school’s numeracy facilitator provides extra support to both students and teachers to provide the necessary math foundations.

We recognize the importance of balancing academics with both the arts and athletics and are happy to offer a number of exciting extra-curricular activities including drumming, volleyball, basketball and a ski and snowboard club. PJP is also proud to offer the Ojibway Language program and Core French program, giving families the power to choose which language their child will learn. Our educators care about each and every child and work hard to help give them the tools they’ll need to succeed. We love seeing the bonds created by such caring staff as children move through our school from Kindergarten to Grade 6.
The Joy of Belonging

At Pope John Paul II School we love hearing our families talk about the sense of belonging we create for their children as soon as they walk in our doors. From the Kindergarten classroom to their final days as a Grade 6 student, our school nurtures an environment where children feel safe and families feel included. Our educators strive to help children find the joy in learning so that they can discover their passions. Our school is based on a foundation of inclusion, where every child matters and is valued. The educators are passionate about their jobs and look forward to seeing the students every day.

We Make a Difference
At Pope John Paul II School, we encourage compassion and kindness in our students by serving our local community through a variety of initiatives. Our students take part in the Terry Fox Run every year, in the spring they raise money at Jump Rope for Heart for the Canadian Cancer Society and we often make sandwiches and muffins to donate to the Fellowship Centre. These are just a few examples of the many ways in which our students are learning to be community builders.

Our compassion begins at home with our school Flight Crew. The Flight Crew is a new mentor program where older students develop leadership initiatives to help their school community.
